Booking, Preparing, Arriving
How long does a session actually take?
Between sixty and a hundred and fifty minutes depending on what is being fitted, and the longer figures are honest rather than padded. A putter session genuinely fits into an hour. An iron session does not, because measuring your existing set properly takes twenty minutes before a single new head appears.
What should I bring with me?
The clubs you actually play, in whatever condition they are in. The shoes you wear on the course. A sleeve of your usual ball if you have a preference. And, if it exists anywhere, whatever you have previously written down about your yardages, however scrappy.
Should I warm up at a range beforehand?
Please do not. A player who has already hit eighty balls arrives loose and unlike the version of themselves who turns up on a Saturday morning. Warm up here instead; it is unrecorded and included in the booked time.
Why are your distance figures lower than the ones I got elsewhere?
Almost always because you are comparing our carry figure against somebody else's total, which included modelled roll. Sometimes because the other reading used a range ball, and sometimes because it was taken on a hot afternoon with nobody writing the temperature down. None of those readings is dishonest. Only one of them can be checked afterwards.
Reading What Comes Off the Printer
What is the second column on the sheet?
The travel column. Your measured valley figures sit on the left; an estimate for cooler, denser air nearer sea level sits on the right, clearly labelled as an estimate. It exists because a large share of our clients play half their golf somewhere other than here.
Do I have to buy clubs from you?
No, and a meaningful share of sessions end with no order at all. The fee covers the time and the sheet. Take the specification anywhere you like; it is written in plain figures precisely so that it is portable.
The Short Version of Both Answers
Carry is measured here. Roll belongs to a golf course we have never seen, so it is reported separately and never folded into the distance figure. Everything on the sheet is dated and sits under a header stating what the air was doing.
How a Session RunsWhat You Are Actually Paying For
Is the session fee deducted if I do order?
No. The moment it is, the measurement becomes free and the club becomes the product, and you lose any way of telling whether the recommendation was influenced by that. Paying separately for the advice is what allows us to tell you to keep what you own.
I am a beginner. Am I wasting your time?
No, but you might be wasting your money, and it depends on the specifics. A beginner with an ill-fitting hand-me-down set benefits enormously. A beginner six weeks into the game whose swing is still changing weekly should play a season first. Ring the desk and we will tell you honestly which you are.
Whether You Should Be Here at All
What if my swing is inconsistent on the day?
Then the spread column on your sheet will be wider than usual and the session concludes less than it otherwise would. If the scatter is wide enough that no specification can be honestly drawn from it, we say so, you pay for the session you took, and the return visit costs nothing.
Do you fit left-handed players?
Yes, and one of our two fitters is left-handed. The component rack is thinner on that side because supply is thinner on that side, which is an industry problem rather than a policy. More gets ordered in rather than tested off the wall, so left-handed sessions occasionally need a follow-up visit.
Can you work on clubs I bought somewhere else?
Yes, at the same rates, with no surcharge. Around a third of the bench work here is on equipment we did not sell. If a set turns out to be past economic repair you will hear that before any labour is charged.
How far in advance should I book?
From November through April, expect two to three weeks for a weekend slot and rather less midweek. From June to September you can often be seen within a few days. There is no deposit, so booking early costs nothing if plans change.
Timing, Juniors, Sharing and Records
Do you fit juniors?
Yes, with a caveat we state up front: a growing player will outgrow the specification, sometimes within a season. We fit to current measurements rather than to anticipated growth, and we would rather adjust an inexpensive set twice than build an expensive one that fits in eighteen months.
Can two of us share one booking?
No. A session sheet has to belong to one swing, and splitting the time produces two half-measured players rather than one properly measured one. Two people can book consecutive stations, and if you both travel in the second is charged at seventy per cent.
How often should I be re-fitted?
For most players, not nearly as often as the industry suggests. A loft and lie audit once a year is worth it. A full re-fitting is worth it when something has actually changed: your swing, your health, your ball, or your equipment through wear. Chasing annual product cycles is not a reason.
Do you keep my numbers on file?
For five years. A return visit within that window is charged at sixty per cent and prints your old readings beside the new ones, which is the most useful thing this studio does and the thing fewest people know to ask for.
Ring the Desk Rather Than Guessing
Two minutes on the phone settles most things, and Simone is entirely willing to tell you that a session is not what you need. That happens on roughly one call in six.
